About the memory project
Memories of Compton Verney is a three-year Heritage Lottery Fund-supported programme to capture the history of the house and estate during the twentieth century through the stories and images of the many individuals and communities who worked, played or even courted on the site.
Since the last Verney left in 1921 the house passed through a succession of owners and played many roles: from army research establishment to film set, before being acquired for its present usage by the Peter Moores Foundation in 1993. Over the first four years of opening as a twenty-first century art gallery, many visitors have shown an interest in the history of the house and grounds and have volunteered their own memories of visiting before its current incarnation.
Memories of Compton Verney is an on-line archive that will enable visitors to discover these hidden histories and to share their own memories with others. We are also planning a number of projects in local schools and with community groups on family history.
If you would like the memories team to contact you about a project or event please email them at memories@comptonverney.org.uk
